Aberpergwm Mine

Part of SES, the Special Projects team is at the forefront of British mining, tunnelling and shaft work. Thanks to many years of successful delivery, SES is equally respected for its technical insight, engineering excellence, and broad capabilities. When the USA's Walter Energy needed a UK partner to help operate their Aberpergwm anthracite mine in South Wales, SES was more than capable.

SES provides Aberpergwm's site management team, skilled operatives to mine the coal, and trainers for an expanded future workforce. The coal is produced by a Board and Pillar method, using a multi-entry tunnel system. The tunnels' roofs and sides are systematically supported by steel bolts, drilled and inserted into the surrounding strata as part of the coal extraction process.
